SITUAÇÃO ATUAL DOS MORADORES DO PINHEIRINHO - Relato de quem foi lá ver. Horror!!!

Faces, bom dia!

E a tendência é piorar.

Juntos, somos UM!

CURRENT STATUS OF THE RESIDENTS OF PINHEIRINHO - report of who was there to see. Horror!

Good morning! It is 3:05 a.m. I'm sleeping in Sao Jose dos Campos, with my friend Claudia.

The four camps (excuse me, I see no more appropriate expression) are horrible. There is a strange smell, the smell of fear, because there is not enough room for people to look after themselves, for personal hygiene. There are health risks. Privacy is something from another planet here.

We need to build a communication point for them to learn to defend themselves. Phones does not work well in the areas where they are housed. Please help us make noise about this! To raise awareness and join me, simply because the police has thrown us out, we want to just show what is going on.

I could not film or photograph the second housing area, Dom Pedro II School Caique. A feeling of fear, sadness, alcohol, anxiety is what you see in the eyes of our brothers.

All together, children and adults are in the same beds. Hundreds of mattresses are on the floor, lights are turned on at dawn. No one rests.

But there's something that is absurdly strange and beautiful at the same time, some of them acknowledge, much ... want to know what it is?  The answer is:  - they say my daughter (daughter always calls me), my children are alive. My husband, the wife is alive.

What the hell is this?

Some received 500.00 for rent, but think about it: where is it possible to pay 500.00 rent for a space for a family of 10 or more people?

The situation in Pinheirinho is that of a horror movie. Smell of death, the remains of murdered animals, mostly dogs.

Please do not give up, persevere! We need Brazil to be watching this. Together we are ONE! Love for those who had the patience to read this far.

The story of Ahmed #Doma's unjust imprisonment #Egypt

Writtten by Rana Khazbak under the original title 'The story of one activist's unjust imprisonment' and originally posted by the Egypt Independent at http://www.egyptindependent.com/node/630721

Cartoon originally published by Latuff Cartoons
Five days after activist Ahmed Doma suddenly disappeared, his family and lawyers finally managed to contact him Tuesday morning in Tora prison. They say that Doma is in good health, despite suffering humiliating treatment at a prison in Tanta during the first 20 days of his detention.
“We were able to visit him today in Tora prison and he said he is being treated well… and is in good health,” said Norham Hefzy, Doma’s fiancé.
Doma has spent 30 days in detention pending investigation after he was arrested on 4 January and charged with setting fire to the Institut d’Egypte during December clashes between protesters and military forces in downtown Cairo. The violence, which left 17 people dead and hundreds injured, erupted after military forces violently dispersed a sit-in in front of the cabinet building.
Before being transferred to Tora, Doma was detained in Tanta governorate, upon his lawyers’ request, in order to attend law school exams at his university nearby.
His family has been searching for him in both prisons for the past week. Prison officials had told them he was not in their custody.
Hefzy told Egypt Independent that the revolutionary activist was harassed in the Tanta prison.
“An investigations police officer tore up Doma’s clothes and took away his shoes and threatened to punish him if he leaked any information outside the prison,” she said.
Doma is charged with damaging public property, assaulting public workers, obstructing traffic and unlawful assembly, according to Ali Soliman, one of his lawyers. On 19 January, the court rejected an appeal to release him from detention, he said.
Soliman submitted a complaint to the general prosecution Tuesday and received a permit that allows Doma’s family and defense team to visit him in the future.
According to Ahmed Helmy, who leads Doma’s defense team, a civilian submitted the lawsuit against Doma and supported his accusations with a video taken with his cell phone. However, Doma doesn’t appear in the video, which Doma’s accuser claims was taken during the clashes.
“The video is taken during the night in very dim lighting where two men appear from the back sitting on the ground in front of the cabinet building,” said Helmy. Doma’s accuser says that there are molotov cocktails next to the two men in the video.
“These are the same accusations against activists that used to be leveled during Mubarak regime,” said Helmy.
The other video being used against Doma in the investigations is a recording of a live TV interview with him on the private satellite channel Dream 2, where he said: “I hereby admit that I was throwing molotovs with the protesters, not at the building per se, but in the face of soldiers who were gunning us down from the top.”
During the interrogation, when asked about that video, Doma defended himself and said that his words were not literal. Rather, he argued that he was defending the revolutionaries who were being killed.
“There is no case against him and no evidence for the charges,” said Helmy.
Thousands of protesters marched in solidarity with Doma from general prosecution headquarters to the Parliament building on Tuesday. The demonstrators asked MPs to support the long-time activist and pressure the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to immediately hand over power.
“Doma is one of the most dedicated activists I’ve ever met in my life, more than any one of us. And all the time, he is being punished for loving his country,” said Yasser al-Hawary, member of the Youth for Justice and Freedom movement in which Doma is a member.
Doma has a long history of activism. He was detained several times before and imprisoned twice, first in 2008 when he spent a year in prison for joining the ranks of Palestinian fighters during Israel’s war on Gaza, and again shortly before the revolution began last year, when he was sentenced to three months in prison for participating in a protest against the regime.
Protesters marched carrying pictures of Doma and signs that read “Free Doma” and “Government, where is Doma?” The chanted: “Doma is one of us and we won’t abandon him” and “Down with military rule.”
Hawary accused the SCAF of violating revolutionaries’ rights and slammed what he called “bias” in the investigations.
“We know for a fact that there isn’t an independent institution in our country. We have been fighting for the independence of the judiciary since the beginning of the revolution but nothing happened,” added Hawary.
“Doma’s arrest is a continuation of the suppression and violations that we faced before the revolution and which we insist have to end.”

FST 2012 promises massive mobilization of social movements

The General Assembly of Social Movements, which brought together 1,5 thousand people on Saturday, in Porto Alegre, approved an action/event in the evicted area of Pinheirinho in São José dos Campos (#SJC). According to Rosane Bertotti, representative from CUT and assembly coordinator, the event will take place on February 2nd at 9am and will "protest the fascist government of Governor Geraldo Alckmin who doesn't respect democracy or social movements".

The objective of the coordination between the different movements is to turn the resistance of Pinheirinho into a symbol of the resumption of struggle of the movements that represent social struggles in Brazil.

The eviction of #Cracolandia in downtown São Paulo was also mentioned by Luiz Gonzaga da Silva, vice-president of the Popular Movements Forum. The president of Conam (National Confederation of Residents) Bartiria Lima Costa also defended the "inclusion of the urban crisis as a part of the capitalist crisis" in the final document of the FST (Social Themed Forum 2012), adding that "what happened in Pinheirinho must not occur again in a country that has laws to solve problems such as this one. The problem is the antidemocratic governments."

The social environmental movements present at FST set their protest date to the 6th of February, unifying diverse protests in several states in defense of the Forestry Code Bill. "We have to guarantee mobilizations in all the states. We are going to make ourselves heard at the legislative assemblies", said Mário Mantovani, coodinator of the organization SOS Mat Atlântica. Most environmental organizations approved the agenda for the first semester of 2012, which includes the Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development in June.

The FBOMS (Brazilian ONG Forum and Social Movements for the Environment), allied to several regional networks, aims to maximize their gathering potential in all the twenty-six states of Brazil (plus the Federal District) "in order to reach the highest possible degree of mobilization at Rio+20", said Rubens Born, coordinator of FBOMS.

Executive secretary of OCLAE (Organization of Latin American and Caribbean students), Mateus Fiorentini, proposed the establishing of a continental landmark date in defense of public education and against the criminalization of social movements, adding, "we have conditions to make a crusade in all of Latin America, from Mexico to Patagonia.

Tica Moreno, representative of the Worldwide Women's March, also adopted an agenda of protests until Rio+20. "Our fight will be against the transnationals, for the climate justice, food sovereignty, the fight to ban violence against women, the fight for peace and against war, militarism and occupation of our territories. We will identify which points unite us and what we can do in terms of concrete action and massive mobilization across the world."
