UNITED NATIONS, May 4 -- In the run up to the Rio + 20 conference, on Friday evening at the UN yet another week of negotiations was arranged, for May 29 to June 2.

Four hundred paragraphs remain without agreement; Inner City Press asked about those dealing with the "right to information," switched by the US to "legitimate access" to information, limited by trade secrets, patents and copyright.

After Friday night's deferral, the nine "Major Groups" were given two minutes each to speak. The Indigenous group, which started speaking in Spanish about la Madre Tierra or Pachamama, was cut off by the chair and told to speak in English. Ultimately this was translated by the Local Authorities group.

Still the Groups hit hard, with Farmers criticizing the mention of the World Trade Organization in the agriculture section, and the Youth group denouncing greenwashing (if not Blue-washing, in a week where Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Myanmar congratulated a company involved in spying technology, as exposed by Inner City Press.)

At the front of the room was outgoing DESA chief Sha Zukang, urging that at least 90% of the text be agreed before Rio begins. China has put in two names to replace Sha, but Brazil is pushing hard now for the DESA post, as Inner City Press exclusively reported yesterday.

Now, this update: China might accept the top post at the Department of General Assembly and Conference Affairs as long as it also got the Number Two post in DESA, at the Assistant Secretary General level.

But then what would sub Saharan Africa get? The Department of Public Information has, as Inner City Press reported, been promised to a European. And so it goes at the UN.

At a press conference Friday afternoon, Inner City Press asked about the right to information that was in Rio Principle 10. The response, from Neth Dano of the ETC Group of the Philippines, was that "one delegation" pushed to limited the right to only "legitimate" information.

Inner City Press asked her to name that delegation, but she declined. Afterward she said it was the US, "from the State Department." Meanwhile, the US was expected to make a statement on Friday night about no more funding - will that now come on June 2? Will Obama go to Rio? Watch this site.

Peru - Brazil Fact - [Marcio Zonta] Given the statement by President Humala on the deployment of "Conga", two weeks ago, the population remains on alert

The population of Cajamarca, Peru to the west, following two weeks mobilization against mega mining for gold and copper exploration in the region, known as the Conga. The contamination and compromised water supply used by the population are the main reasons for the protests.

This week, before the recent statements of President Ollanta Humala, stating that the project will be implemented, the demonstrators in Cajamarca are showing a video of his election campaign in which the candidate Humala was said to be against the mining project, in favor of water and not gold.

To agree with the implementation oif Conga will be implemented, Humala is based his decision upon an international expert commissioned by his government, which concludes that the disappearance of lakes formed by springs do not have a substantial impact on the environment and the water supply in the region.

This morning (27), the regional president of Cajamarca, Gregory Santos, said the documents presented of international experts "are just one among many others, trying to convince in favor of approving the project."

Instead, Santos requests from the Peruvian government more dialogue and openness on other studies conducted by regional experts. "I ask the president to listen to the leaders of society, see studies by local government, and include this information in the debate on Conga, which has to date not included our position."

Wilfredo Saavedra, head of the Defense Front of Cajamarca, which includes trade unions, the Catholic Church, political, social movements and local government accuses the document prepared by Knight Piésold transnational Consultants, Inc. of bias . "These international experts beautified the environmental and social impacts, which forced the government to retreat from their former positions. "

Tense

The climate of tension in the city followed and resulted the deployment  of about 1,500 men of the Peruvian National Police in recent days.

The Front for the Defense of Cajamarca denounced the militarization of the city is being coordinated by the U.S. company Yanaconha, responsible for operating Conga.

Luis Argueles, commercial manager of the Conga project, confesses that there is communication between the company and police men sent to Cajamarca. "We are in coordination with security forces in Peru to protect our equipment and our employees that are already in place, nothing more than that."

Justice Minister Juan Jimenez asked the authorities balance, tranquility and dialogue with the people around the controversy over the Conga project. "We have to reach the hearts and minds of the population to gain support for the project, without imposition or violent force."

Deputy Agriculture Minister Juan Rheineck, proposed at a meeting this afternoon with leaders of Cajamarca "a dialogue with the people, not to repeat the mistakes of other mining projects that do not comply with the quality of life, the water supply and resulted in massive environmental destruction. "

#Brasil: Barbárie no Maranhão! Índia assassinada por pistoleiros! / #Brazil: Barbarism in Maranhão! Indians murdered by gunmen!

A impunidade é a regra!

É a Barbárie!

An indigenous leader of Maranhão, the chief Guajajara Maria Amelia, 52, was executed yesterday afternoon (28), by gunmen. According to the information that came in just now, two men on a motorcycle, came to the village and in front of everyone (including the victim's family) fired two shots into the head of Mary Amelia.

This Indian chief of the village was Guajajara Coquilho II in Indigenous Canabrava, located in the municipality of Grajau, 600 km from Sao Luis. She denounced the constant assaults in the region, drug trafficking and illegal logging in indigenous land. It is common knowledge that the suspects are loggers in the region, protected by the Sarney group.

The brutal and cowardly assassination of Indians confirms the words of our fellow-Way Fact, journalist Emilio Azevedo, in a recent interview with "Radio Brazil Current" and played (with unjustifiable hesitation) on the site of the National Federation of Journalists (FENAJ). What happened to Maria Amelia is more a sad, unfortunate, tragic, exposing once again, barbarism lived in Maranhão, the result of a policy without civility, marked by the mafia, where organized crime has infiltrated the three branches is (the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary).

Within the month of April 2012 a farmer, a journalist and yesterday (28/04), an indigenous leader were executed. And, unless the activity of the journalist, the other are no exception! In Maranhão the murder of farmers, landless Indians, maroons is common ... The chaos began long ago, in the vast periphery of Maranhão. The problem is that the indifference of the elite / government / mafia, do not give visibility to the situation. A false sense of calm is created. The information on six shots which killed journalist Decio Sa is exposing the viscera of Maranhao! And some - as is currently registered Professor Wagner Cabral on social networks - use and abuse of hypocrisy before the corpse of the journalist.

The region of Maranhão, has no government! There is no justice! Impunity is the rule! The power is coming down to a fight between gangs! Maria Amelia, an Indian, is another victim of this situation. The difference is that you will not have a reward of one hundred thousand to find the culprits, nor Sarney will write an article in his own hand, talking about "moral values", "freedom" and "democracy", a mixture of cynicism and cowardice.

How well the magazine Carta Capital said this week (No. 695) today, the friends of José Sarney (the head of the largest banditry) are safer. It is Barbarism! It is the lack of civility that was born of a scheme inspired by the brutality and fraud in the vitorinismo and consolidated in the darkness of a bloody dictatorship. A reading of history interview with Freitas Diniz, published this month in the journal Roads Fact, it helps to understand our situation and profile of our oppressors.

For Indians, the figures are alarming. In Maranhão, in 2011, a truck went over a Guajajara, an Indian Kanela was raped and cruelly beaten to death (pieces of wood and dried leaves were inserted into her genitals); in March this year, an Indian Guajajara, 13 year old, pregnant with a non-Indian, was found in his home bruised, strangled and tied to a chair and furthermore, a child-Awa Gwajá was allegedly burnt alive by loggers. The latest victim was the chief warrior Guajajara Maria Amelia. It is barbaric! And for change to occur, and we have to admit this reality!

What really happened in Abbaseya (#Egypt) / O que realmente aconteceu em Abbaseya (#Egito)

Originally posted by  at http://inalllanguages.blogspot.ca/2012/05/whats-really-going-on-in-abbaseya.html

Background about Abbaseya district and it's standpoint from the Revolution

I was born and raised in Abbaseya district in east Cairo, an old and
wide neighborhood that has many ministries most importantly the
Egyptian ministry of defense and the current headquarter of the
Supreme Council of Armed Forces SCAF where many protests,
marches, rallies against military rule have taken place since last
year.

Abbaseya is quite big and is divided into (low income) and (middle
middle class) areas. The national democratic party of Mubarak has
always used paid thugs from there to use them in the elections.

After the revolution SCAF, ex members of NDP, police, retired military personnel have done the same thing: hiring thugs with weapons
against revolutionary activities including protests and sit ins that take
place in Abbaseya.

Abbaseya black history with the revolution

There were more than one accident where revolutionary protesters and
Abbaseya thugs clashed (most famous 23rd of July 2011- 9th of September 2011) and most recently in April and May 2012.

Abbaseya was also a common destination for most of Pro-SCAF and
pro-military rule anti-Tahrir demonstrations in Egypt. At some point revealing you're a part of the ongoing revolution would get you in so
much trouble there.

What happened in Abbaseya (27April-May 2012)?

O que aconteceu em Abbaseya (27April de maio de 2012)?

There was a big rally in Tahrir #April20 where all revolutionary groups
(RS- April6- Independent activists) in addition to the Muslim
Brotherhood- supporters of Hazem Salah Abou Islmail and supporters
of other candidates.

outros candidatos.

Some revolutionary groups decided to remain in the square until the
next week where another rally took place, most of them were revolutionary Salafi groups and many independent activists. They remained in the square until Friday #27April chanting against SCAF and denouncing military rule and then they decided to march towards the ministry of defense in
Abbaseya.

Huge numbers and thousands of many revolutionary Salafi groups,
Ultras members, April 6 members, Kefaya, young activists and ordinary people marched all the way to Abbaseya from Tahrir and then decided to start a sit in.

Summary/Resumo

1- The march and the sit in was initiated and joined by various
revolutionary groups (Not just Hazem Salah Abu Islamil supporters).

2- In addition to the revolutionary Islamists April 6 movement, Kefaya, members of the ultras, presidency candidate like Abol Fotoh, Khaled
Ali, Sabahy and of course the independent youth groups and ordinary
people are present in the sit in all against military rule.

3- The presence of bearded men can't be neglected of course but calling
this ( a sit in of radical ultra conservative supporters of Hazem Salah)
is bull shit. I don't know how else I should put it. There are many Salafi groups that are revolutionaries and just because you hate Islamists in
general you can simply neglect the fact they do exist.

4- The atmosphere in the sit in is great, very well organized and open to everyone similar to how it was in the 18 days.

5- The weapons used were: machine guns, birdshots, tear gas made in the
U.S, molotov cocktails, live ammunition and others.

6- The number of deaths according to field hospital doctors and eyewitness accounts for all the attacks is more than 40 and the number of injuries is more than 200.

7- The military and police forces presence is huge in front of the ministry
of defense but they kept watching as people got slaughtered in front of
them in addition to aiding thugs and providing them with tear gas and military weapons.

8- There's a complete media bleak out as things were going on and
afterwards they came out inaccurate.
Day after day my believe in the bias of western media increases. The
