Uma situação conflituosa e de grande tensão tem ocorrido na Terra Indígena (TI) Sete de Setembro: madeireiros tem invadido e ocupado o território indígena, extraindo madeira e ameaçando a vida dos indígenas que se opõem à presença e às ações deles.

A situation of great tension and conflict has occurred in Indigenous Land (IT) Seven September, loggers have invaded and occupied Indian territory, extracting timber and threatening the life of the natives who oppose their presence and actions.

A presença e as atitudes dos invasores tem levado a conflitos com os indígenas, e alguns líderes indígenas do povo Paiter Surui estão sendo ameaçados de morte pelos madeireiros.

The presence and attitudes of the invaders has led to conflicts with the natives, and some indigenous leaders of the Paiter Surui are being threatened with death by the loggers.

Esta situação não pode mais continuar assim. FUNAI, Polícia Federal e Ministério da Justiça já tem consciência da situação e da presença (ilegal) de madeireiros na Terra Indígena Sete de Setembro, mas precisam agir para garantir a segurança desta e do povo indígena Paiter Surui (especialmente daqueles que estão sendo ameaçados de morte).

This situation can not continue like this. FUNAI, the Federal Police and the Ministry of Justice are already aware of the situation and the presence of (illegal) loggers on the Indigenous territory in Sete de Setembro, but must act to ensure its security and Paiter Surui indigenous people (especially those who are being threatened with death).

É inaceitável aceitarmos que outros líderes de populações tradicionais sejam assassinados por madeireiros, simplesmente por defenderem o uso sustentável de suas terras e a possibilidade de viverem dignamente nelas, como é o caso do Zé Cláudio e da Maria, que morreram no Pará no ano passado.

It is unacceptable to accept that other leaders of traditional populations are killed by loggers, simply for defending the sustainable use of their land and the possibility for them to live with dignity, as is the case of Claudio and Ze Maria, who died last year in Para.

Como brasileiros, não podemos deixar isso acontecer dentro do nosso território.

As Brazilians, we can not let that happen within our territory.

Assim, em face da ameaça à sustentabilidade da vida do povo indígena Paiter Surui, representada pelas constantes ameaças de morte que seus líderes vem sofrendo e pela devastação e invasão da TI Sete de Setembro, causados pela falta de fiscalização e controle de suas fronteiras e pela impunidade perante os invasores, pedimos ao Exmo. Ministro da Justiça, à Ilma. Presidente da FUNAI e à diretoria geral da Polícia Federal as garantias abaixo explicitadas em nossa petição.

As a result and in the face of threat to the sustainability of life of the indigenous Paiter Surui, represented by the constant death threats that their leaders has been suffering and devastation and invasion of the TI Sete de Setembro, caused by lack of supervision and control of its borders and impunity before the invaders, we ask the Hon. Minister of Justice, the Ilma. President of FUNAI and general manager of the safeguards under the Federal Police explained in our petition.
