Tratores, caminhões, motocicletas e armas dos madeireiros foram queimados.

Líder Almir Suruí está sendo escoltado pela Força Nacional.

O conflito entre indígenas da etnia paiter suruí e madeireiros da região de Cacoal, Rondônia, agravou-se na madrugada desta quarta-feira (1). Tratores, caminhões, motocicletas e armas de fogo dos madeireiros foram incendiados no território indígena Sete de Setembro e os empresários acusam a comunidade indígena como responsável pela ação.

Na manhã desta quarta-feira (1), Almir Suruí,líder do povo paiter suruí, esteve nas sedes do Ministério Público Federal (MPF) e da Polícia Federal (PF), em Ji-Paraná, a 105 quilômetros de Cacoal, para entregar uma carta e informar sobre a situação do conflito. Em todo o percurso, o líder indígena foi escoltado pela Força Nacional, para garantir sua segurança.

Os indígenas afirmam que ameaças foram feitas e há possibilidade de um conflito maior caso a situação não seja controlada.Segundo Almir Suruí, o incêndio não foi causado pelo povo indígena. De acordo com a carta, Suruí pede, com urgência, proteção ao seu povo e a retirada dos madeireiros do território.

Os madeireiros, segundo Almir Suruí, invadiram há três meses o território indígena dos paiter suruí e ameaçaram cerca de 1,3 mil índios.

A aldeia localizada em Cacoal possui uma área de 248 mil hectares e mais de 150 mil já é de proteção integral há seis anos, nenhuma árvore pode ser derrubada.

The conflict between indigenous ethnic Paiter Suruí and loggers in the region of Cacoal, Rondônia, has worsened in the early hours of Wednesday (1). Tractors, trucks, motorcycles, and firearms from the timber were burned in the Seventh of September Indigenous territory and entrepreneurs complain that the Indigenous community is responsible for the action.

Earlier on Wednesday (1), Almir Surui, leader of the Paiter Suruí, was the headquarters of the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and the Federal Police (PF) in Ji-Parana, which is located 105 kilometers from Cacoal to deliver a letter and report on the conflict situation. Throughout the journey, the Indian leader was escorted by the National Force, to ensure his safety. 

According Almir Surui, the fire was not caused by the Indigenous people. According to the letter, Suruí asks, urgently, to protect his people and the removal of timber from the territory. 

The Indigenous people claim that threats were made and there is a possibility of a broader conflict if the situation is not controlled.

The loggers, according Almir Surui, conducted a raid three months ago within the Indigenous territory of the Paiter Suruí and threatened about 1,300 Indigenous community members.

The village of Cacoal is located in an area of 248,000 hectares and more than 150 000 has already been under full protection for the past six years. Not one tree can be felled.
