O ativista moçambicano Jeremias Vunjanhe recebeu nova autorização para entrar no Brasil.

O ativista moçambicano Jeremias Vunjanhe, impedido de entrar no Brasil no último dia 12 para participar de um evento paralelo à Rio+20, obteve um novo visto e está a caminho do país.

The Mozambican activist Jeremiah Vunjanhe who was prevented from entering Brazil in the last 12 days to attend a side event at the Rio+20, obtained a new visa and is now traveling to the country.

A Justiça Ambiental afirmou à BBC Brasil, no entanto, que autoridades brasileiras ainda não esclareceram por que ele foi barrado na semana passada.

The NGO Justica Ambiental have informed BBC Brazil, however, that Brazilian authorities have not explained why he was barred last week.

Segundo a ONG Justiça Ambiental, em que Vunjanhe atua, o ativista obteve um novo visto na embaixada brasileira em Maputo, capital moçambicana, e embarcou na noite de domingo rumo ao Brasil, onde deve chegar nas próximas horas. 

According to the NGO Justica Ambiental, which acts on behalf of Vunjanhe, the activist received a new visa at the Brazilian embassy in Maputo, the Mozambican capital, and left for Brazil on Sunday night. He should arrive in the coming hours.

Vunjanhe coordena uma campanha da Justiça Ambiental contra a ação da mineradora brasileira Vale em Moçambique. Ele pretende divulgar a atuação da empresa no 3° Encontro Internacional dos Atingidos pela Vale, que ocorrerá na Cúpula dos Povos, evento paralelo à conferência da ONU.

Vunjanhe coordinates an environmental justice campaign against the action of the Brazilian mining company Vale in Mozambique. He intends to disclose the company's activities in the 3rd International Meeting of People Affected by Vale, to be held in the Peoples' Summit, a parallel event to the UN conference.

Vunjanhe diz que portava toda a documentação necessária para ingressar no país: visto válido por 90 dias, carta-convite da Cúpula dos Povos e comprovante de hospedagem.

Vunjanhe says that carried all the necessary documentation to enter the country: a visa valid for 90 days, letter of invitation from the People's Summit and proof of accommodation.

Ele afirmou que agentes da Polícia Federal o barraram logo após o desembarque e, sem lhe dar explicações, exigiram que retornasse à África do Sul, de onde embarcara rumo ao Brasil.

He said the federal police stopped him soon after landing, and without giving explanations, demanded for him to return to South Africa, where he had boarded a plane bound for Brazil.

Já no voo de regresso, Vunjanhe diz ter recebido seu passaporte de volta com um selo informando que ele consta do Sistema Nacional de Procurados e Impedidos.

Vunjanhe stated that he received his passport back on the return flight with a stamp stating that he appears in the National System of Wanted and Individuals Not Permitted to Enter the Country.

Denúncia/Complaint

Na Cúpula dos Povos, Vunjanhe pretende expor a atuação da Vale na província moçambicana do Tete, onde a companhia brasileira explora uma das maiores minas de carvão a céu aberto do mundo.

In the Peoples' Summit, Vunjanhe intend to expose the activities of Vale in the Mozambican province of Tete, where the Brazilian company operates one of the largest coal mines in the open world.

A abertura da mina ocorreu em 2011, após o reassentamento de 1.365 famílias de agricultores. O ativista alega que as famílias foram deslocadas para uma área distante de serviços básicos e mercados, a 40 km do território onde viviam, e que a Vale não tem cumprido o prometido nas negociações.

The opening of the mine took place in 2011 after the resettlement of 1,365 families of farmers. The activist claims that the families were moved to a remote area of basic services and markets, 40 km removed from the territory where they had originally lived, and that Vale has not fulfilled its promise that were part of the negotiations.

Em janeiro, em protesto contra as condições, os moradores fecharam a ferrovia pela qual a Vale escoa o carvão até o porto da Beira, no Oceano Índico.

In January, in protest against the conditions, the people off the trains by which Vale ships the coal to the port of Beira, on the Indian Ocean.

A Polícia Federal e a Vale não comentaram o bloqueio à entrada do ativista.

The Federal Police and Vale have declined to comment in regard to the barring of the activist from entering Brazil.
