O Exército e a Força Nacional estão ocupando desde ontem (31) o sítio Pimental, onde há um dos canteiros das obras da barragem de Belo Monte, na região de Altamira (PA). A medida seria para impedir novos protestos de indígenas e demais grupos atingidos pela barragem no local.

The Army and National Force are occupying the site Pimental since yesterday. This is the location of one of the work sites of the Belo Monte dam, in Altamira (PA). This measure was taken to prevent new protests by indigenous and other groups affected by the dam in place.

Entre os dias 8 e 17 de outubro, pescadores e indígenas promoveram uma ocupação no local, porque a Norte Energia, dona da barragem, não cumpriu as condicionantes da obra e se negou a negociar com os atingidos. Com o protesto, foi conseguida uma audiência de conciliação entre representantes dos ocupantes e a empresa, mas poucas medidas concretas foram acordadas e grande parte das decisões foram postergadas para reuniões posteriores.

Between the 8th and 17th of October, fishermen and indigenous advocated for an occupation of the site, because the Norte Energia, which owns the dam, failed to fulfill the conditions of work and refused to negotiate with those affected. O Movimento dos Atingidos por Barragens (MAB) questiona se a entrada das forças policiais e militares no canteiro poderá agravar o clima de tensão em torno da obra. "Os grupos atingidos vem promovendo protestos pacíficos e legítimos, que são o único jeito de se fazerem ouvir pela empresa. Tememos que a entrada do Exército e da Força Nacional possa agravar o quadro de violações de direitos humanos contra as populações mais fragilizadas", afirmou Antônio Claret, militante do MAB na região.

The Movimento dos Atingidos por Barragens or MAB (Movement of People Affected by Dams) questions whether the entry of the police and military forces into the work site could worsen the tension surrounding the work. "The affected groups have been promoting legitimate and peaceful protests, which are the only way to be heard by the company. Os pescadores estavam promovendo ocupações em ilhas próximas à obra da ensecadeira da barragem desde meados de setembro. Eles alegam que já não há peixes em vários pontos do rio Xingu, enquanto a empresa se nega a reconhecer que há impactos sobre a pesca.

Os indígenas realizaram uma ocupação da obra entre junho e julho, mas continuaram instatisfeitos com os acordos assinados para desocupação do canteiro.
