Um trabalhador da Usina Hidrelétrica Belo Monte foi preso na manhã desta segunda-feira, 2, durante repressão da Polícia Militar (PM) a  grevistas que pararam as obras da usina desde a semana passada. Ele permaneceu algemado numa picape da PM, pela manhã. Durante repressão, foram usadas bombas de gás e spray de pimenta. Um helicóptero- alugado pela Norte Energia para uso da Polícia e da Defesa Civil locais – sobrevoava o local, com fuzis apontados para os operários. Ao menos doze trabalhadores estão ameaçados de demissão por conta das movimentações dos últimos cinco dias.

An employee of the Belo Monte Hydroelectric Plant was arrested on the morning of Monday, April 2nd during a repressive action by the Military Police (MP) against the strikers who stopped work on the plant since last week. He remained handcuffed in a pickup throughout the morning. During the attack on the workers, the military police used tear gas and pepper spray. A helicopter chartered by North-Energy for use of the Police and Civil Defence sites - flying over the site, with rifles pointed at the workers. At least a dozen workers are threatened with dismissal because of the movements of the last five days.

Em função da  greve, que ja dura cinco dias, o Consórcio Construtor Belo Monte (CCBM), responsável pela obra, adiantou o pagamento dos salários, previsto para quinta-feira, dia 5, para hoje. Os cerca de 7 mil trabalhadores tem recebido o salário, em dinheiro vivo, em uma danceteria da cidade de Altamira.

Due to the strike, which has already lasted for five, the Belo Monte Builder Consortium (CCBM), responsible for the project, said the payment of wages, scheduled for Thursday, has taken place. The approximately 7,000 employees have received the pay, in cash, a nightclub in the town of Altamira.

Uma comissão da Central Sindical e Popular Conlutas (CSP-Conlutas) veio a Altamira para auxiliar a greve dos trabalhadores, e propor que eles denunciassem suas condições de trabalho em uma reunião marcada para esta terça, 3, entre governo federal, empresas construtoras e sindicatos da categoria, em Brasília.

A committee of the Central Trade Union and Popular Conlutas (CSP-Conlutas) came to Altamira to help workers' strike, and propose that they denounce their working conditions at a meeting scheduled for this Tuesday, 3 between the federal government, construction companies and unions category, in Brasilia.

A paralisação começou na última quarta-feira, 28 de março, em um dos canteiros da obra. No mesmo dia, um acidente de trabalhador levou um operador de motosserra à morte em outro canteiro. No dia seguinte, a greve atingiu os demais canteiros.

The strike began last Wednesday, March 28, in one of the work sites. On the same day, an work related accident took the life of a chainsaw operator in another work site. The next day, the strike hit the other work sites.

As reivindicações são equiparação salarial, redução do intervalo da baixada (visita à família, quando são de outras regiões) de seis para três meses, melhores na comida e água, o fim do desvio de função, baixada para ajudantes de produção (cargo mais baixo na hierarquia da obra), capacitação para funcionários, plano de saúde, aumento do cartão alimentação (hoje, em cerca de 90 reais), aumento de salário, pagamento de horas extras aos sábados, transporte digno, a “troca” do sindicato representativo e o direito à baixada para os trabalhadores que decidirem, por conta própria, morar fora dos canteiros de obras.

Segundo o comando da greve, o Sindicato dos Trabalhadores da Construção Pesada (Sintrapav) abriu diálogo com a empresa, sem a participação dos trabalhadores, propondo que suspendessem a greve e dessem novo prazo à empresa para que respondesse às reivindicações.

Under the command of the strike, the Union of Construction Workers (Sintrapav) opened dialogue with the company, without the participation of workers, proposing to suspend the strike and give a new deadline for the company to respond to claims.
